We try to create means of livelihood for destitute women

ree

Destitute (divorced/ widowed/ abandoned) women facing financial hardship due to lack of training/ education/ funds are trained in various vocations which can then enable them to set up their own small scale businesses and earn a living.

We set up a tea stall for a woman next to her home near a busy bus terminus to sell tea and snacks to passengers and drivers. She could not go to work anywhere far due to the lack of any other carer for her small children. With her earning from this she has been able to put two of her children (who were earlier not being educated) through school.

Another woman was trained as a seamstress and provided with a sewing machine to help her practice her trade and earn a livelihood. She was also able to sustain her family and educate her children. She has now bought another sewing machine with her own savings and employed a helper as her work has increased.

In this manner we are trying to create sustainable livelihoods- we do not give any grants of cash, rather, we try to provide the beneficiaries with the means to earn their own living.
